    Resize and download

Set the height in mm, check the preview, then save the STL for printing or the GLB for viewing.

A real figure, not a flat cut-out

A 3D figure from a photo is not a flat cut-out. The AI reads the shape, pose and proportions in your picture and builds a solid figure with a back, sides and a base that stands on the build plate. People use it to make a custom figurine from a photo of a pet, to turn a child's drawing into a real toy, to bring to life the art on a collectible card they own, or to copy a favorite toy at a different size. This page covers which photos work, how to shoot a good one and what to expect from the result.

Photo tips: what works and what does not

The photo decides most of the result, so spend a minute on it.

Show one subject only, with the whole body in the frame. Cut-off paws, hidden feet or a hand covering the face all turn into guesses. Put the subject against a plain background such as a wall, a sheet of paper or a clean floor. Grass, clutter and patterned blankets can leave bits stuck to the model. Use even, good light, because hard shadows can be read as shape.

For a pet, get down to its level and wait for a calm pose; sitting or lying works better than a mid-jump blur. For a person, ask for a relaxed, upright stance with the arms slightly away from the body. For a drawing, photograph it flat in even light and crop out the paper edge and the table. If the first result has bits attached, retake the picture on a cleaner background and generate again.

Pets, drawings, toys and card art

A pet photo is the most common starting point. The figure keeps the pose and proportions, and you can paint the print to match the real coat.

A child's drawing works too. The AI turns the flat lines into a chunky figure that can stand on its own, which makes a popular gift for the young artist.

A toy you already own can be copied for your own use at a new size. Photograph it from the front on a plain surface and the AI builds a figure you can scale up or down.

The artwork on a collectible card is another source, as long as you own the card and the print is for yourself. Only use pictures you own or have the rights to, and do not upload other people's characters or brands to sell prints. The In colour option at 5 credits keeps the colors in a GLB, which is handy as a paint guide.

What you get and how to print it

Each result gives you an STL and a GLB. The STL is shape only and opens in Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer, PrusaSlicer or Cura, standing on the build plate. The GLB is for viewing, and with the In colour option it carries the colors.

The height slider sets the size in millimeters after the model is made, and changing it is free. Print with tree supports and 0.12 to 0.16 mm layers at 15% infill, and check thin parts such as ears, tails and swords before slicing.

Your first white model is free when you sign in with Google. After that a white model is 3 credits and an In colour model is 5, bought as one-time packs with no subscription. The relief and lithophane modes on this site are free and run in your browser; the AI 3D tab uploads your picture to build the model.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a custom figurine from a photo?

Open the AI 3D tab, upload one clear photo, generate, then set the height and download the STL. Print it on your own printer or send it to a print service. Painting the white print with acrylics gives it the colors of the original, and you can reprint at another size whenever you like.

What is the best photo for a 3D figure?

One subject, the whole body in frame, a plain background and even light. Photos taken at the subject's eye level keep proportions natural. Busy backgrounds such as grass or clutter can leave bits stuck to the model, so crop tightly or retake the shot against a wall.

Can I use a toy photo or card art?

Yes, if you own the toy or card and the print is for your own use. Photograph it from the front on a plain surface. Do not upload other people's characters or brand artwork to make prints you intend to sell. Keep the toy upright and the whole body in frame.

Does the figure keep the colors of my photo?

Only with the In colour option, which costs 5 credits and gives a colored GLB. The STL is always shape only because STL has no color. Most people print the white model and paint it, or print in a single color they like.

Does my photo leave my device?

For AI 3D, yes: the picture is uploaded to build the model. The free relief and lithophane modes run in your browser with no upload. Use the AI tab only with photos you are comfortable processing that way, and keep private pictures for the browser-only modes.
